Race Day Live STRATFORD — A wave of thefts is hitting parts of New Jersey, and police warn residents to take precautions.
Chief Ronald Morello issued a crime alert stating that the trend isn’t just affecting Stratford but is spreading across the county.
Thieves are mainly targeting unlocked vehicles, and almost all incidents are happening between midnight and 3 a.m., police said.
Stratford officers have received at least five reports of break-ins since Monday, with other departments also seeing similar crimes.
Authorities believe a group of young suspects, aged 15 to 21, is behind the thefts. The suspects are reportedly using different stolen vehicles each night as getaway cars.

“We have reason to believe the suspects are operating in a coordinated manner, switching vehicles to avoid detection,” the alert stated.
Chief Morello is urging residents to take simple precautions to prevent these crimes. “Never leave your keys inside the vehicle and always lock up,” he advised.
Police are asking anyone with video footage of the suspects to assist in the investigation. Residents can email their footage to [email protected] or contact detectives at 856-783-8621.
