Another popular restaurant chain is preparing to shut down multiple locations. Red Robin Gourmet Burgers and Brews has announced plans to close 70 of its underperforming restaurants.
This decision follows an operational review aimed at improving business performance.
Red Robin currently operates nearly 500 locations across the United States. With these closures, around 14% of the company’s restaurants will be permanently shut down.
Red Robin Locations in Pennsylvania and New Jersey

In Pennsylvania, there are 31 Red Robin locations. Of these, 11 are company-owned, while 20 operate as franchises.
In New Jersey, Red Robin has 12 locations, with 11 being company-owned and one operating as a franchise.
At this time, there is no official list of which specific locations will be closing. However, franchise-owned locations are expected to remain open, as they are independently operated.
Closures Will Happen as Leases Expire
The company has stated that it will close its restaurants as their leases expire. This process could take up to five years. However, 15 of the planned closures are expected to happen sometime in 2025.
This announcement reflects the ongoing struggles in the restaurant industry. Red Robin reported a net loss of nearly $40 million in the fourth quarter of 2024.
This is a sharp increase from the $14 million loss reported during the same period the previous year.
Red Robin’s Plan to Win Back Customers
Despite these challenges, Red Robin remains optimistic about the future. CEO G.J. Hart has introduced the company’s “North Star Plan,” which aims to attract more customers and improve overall business performance.
One part of this plan is introducing new menu items, such as the Buzzer Beater Bacon Cheeseburger. Red Robin hopes this new burger will bring more guests into their restaurants, helping the company recover from its financial struggles.
While restaurant closures are always unfortunate, Red Robin is committed to making improvements and keeping the brand alive for the future.
