A New York City man, Christian Millet, 23, has been charged with second-degree murder after allegedly stabbing and dismembering his 65-year-old roommate, Edwin Echevarria, following a dispute over food. The Gruesome Discovery
On February 5, authorities were alerted to a suspicious suitcase drifting in the East River. Upon retrieval, officers made the shocking discovery of a human torso inside. Through investigative efforts, the remains were identified as belonging to Edwin Echevarria, a resident of the New York City Housing Authority’s Baruch Houses.

Jennifer Matthews, Echevarria’s daughter, spoke with local news outlet Gothamist about her father’s relationship with Millet. She revealed that Millet was the grandson of her father’s ex-girlfriend and had been staying with Echevarria as an act of kindness. However, the relationship reportedly turned toxic, with Millet allegedly becoming abusive.
“Last time when [Millet] left, I told my dad not to let him back in,” Matthews said. “I didn’t find out until my dad was missing that he had moved back in with my father.”
Matthews became alarmed when Echevarria stopped answering phone calls, leading the family to put up missing person posters. He was last seen alive on February 2, just days before his remains were found in the suitcase.
