Side Chick Chicken Restaurant Expands to Second Location Amid Pandemic Success

Amidst the challenges brought about by the pandemic, Side Chick, a chicken restaurant, has not only managed to survive but has flourished, prompting the opening of its second location.

Side Chick’s journey began during the height of the pandemic when it opened its doors on Federal Blvd. in the Webster neighbourhood. Despite the difficult circumstances, the restaurant quickly gained popularity, particularly for its mouthwatering chicken sandwiches and delectable fries.

Lonny Mitchell, the Director of Operations, credits their success to their commitment to providing top-quality yet affordable food in a neighbourhood saturated with fast-food chains.

“We made a conscious effort to engage with the community. Our focus on serving delicious food at reasonable prices has resonated with our customers, and their support has been instrumental in our success,” Mitchell expressed gratefully.

The Webster location, nestled within the Manolo Farmers Market grocery store, became a hub for locals seeking flavorful comfort food. Buoyed by the positive response, Side Chick seized the opportunity to expand, opening its second location in Nestor, near the border with Imperial Beach, also situated within a Manolo store.

“Operating a restaurant is undoubtedly challenging, but with dedication, a clear vision, and unwavering belief in our concept, we’ve managed to overcome obstacles and achieve our goals,” Mitchell remarked.

By forging a Name, Image, Likeness (NIL) deal with the Aztec men’s basketball team, Side Chick has not only provided opportunities for student-athletes but has also become an integral part of the university community.
