In San Diego, special masses and services are planned for Good Friday, Holy Saturday, and Easter Sunday, as announced by the Diocese of San Diego.
Good Friday, the most solemn day in the Christian calendar, commemorates the death and crucifixion of Jesus Christ. Special prayer services and processions will mark the day.
On Good Friday, the 31st Annual “Walk for the Suffering,” an ecumenical event, will take place from 8:30 a.m. to 11 a.m.
The walk will begin and end at the San Diego Rescue Mission on 120 Elm St. in San Diego. Auxiliary Bishop Felipe Pulido will lead a delegation from the diocese, along with students from Cristo Rey High School.
Also on Good Friday, the “Pro-Life Stations of the Cross” will occur at St. Joseph Cathedral in downtown San Diego. Participants will gather at 11:45 a.m. and march from the Cathedral to the Federal Building at Front Street and Broadway.
They will then re-enact the Stations of the Cross at the Federal Building before processing back to the Cathedral.
Holy Saturday will follow, leading up to Easter Sunday. On Holy Saturday night, Cardinal Robert McElroy will celebrate Easter Vigil Mass at 8 p.m. at Good Shepherd Parish in Mira Mesa.
Auxiliary Bishop Ramon Bejarano will also celebrate Easter Vigil Mass at the same time but at St. Therese of Carmel Parish in Del Mar Heights.
