Suspected Venezuelan Gang Member Arrested in Wisconsin on Multiple Charges

Prairie du Chien, Wisconsin – Authorities in western Wisconsin say they detained a man suspected of belonging to a Venezuelan gang on Thursday afternoon on various domestic offenses.

According to a Prairie du Chien Police Department press release, officers responded to the 300 block of East Wells Street in Prairie du Chien at 12:30 p.m. for complaints of a physical disturbance.

When officers arrived, they discovered that a guy had allegedly been physically and sexually abusive towards an adult woman, and a juvenile girl looked to have been hurt during the incident.

The defendant, 26-year-old Alejandro Jose Coronel Zarate of Venezuela, was apprehended and sent to the Crawford County Jail on the following charges:

Domestic Disorderly Conduct

Two counts of domestic battery.

Strangulation/Suffocation

Physical abuse against a child

Disorderly conduct

Two counts of second-degree sexual assault.

According to police, Coronel Zarate had warrants out of Dane County for Strangulation/Suffocation, False Imprisonment, Battery, and Disorderly Conduct when he was arrested.

Officers further suspect Coronel Zarate of being involved with the violent transnational crime organization known as “Tren de Aragua.”

According to officials, the criminal group has become notorious for a wide range of illegal acts, including homicide, abduction, extortion, drug trafficking, arms/weapons trafficking, human smuggling, and human trafficking.
