Texas Man Days from Execution After Court Rejects Final Appeal

Texas law enforcement is known for being tough on crime, and one inmate is about to face the consequences.

David Wood, Texas Department of Criminal Justice (TDCJ) Inmate #99051, is scheduled to be executed on Thursday, March 13, 2025.

Decades on Death Row

David Wood, born on June 6, 1957, is now 67 years old. He was sentenced to death in June 1988, which means he has spent over 36 years on death row.

Crimes Committed by Wood

According to the Texas Department of Criminal Justice, Wood was convicted of abducting and stabbing 24-year-old Ivy Susanna Williams in El Paso, Texas.

Williams was one of six women whose bodies were found in the desert near El Paso between June and August 1987.

Wood was also charged in connection with the other five murders. Before these charges, he had a criminal record that included indecency with a child, sexual assault, and rape.

Execution Previously Halted

Wood was originally scheduled for execution on August 20, 2009, but the execution was delayed to evaluate whether he was mentally disabled.

In 2014, the Texas Court of Criminal Appeals rejected the mental disability claim.

In August 2024, the 171st District Court of El Paso County set the new execution date. Wood is set to be executed at the Huntsville Unit death chamber.
