Thanksgiving in North Texas Will Be Cold, Overcast, and Breezy

2 min read

North Texas — On Wednesday, temperatures reached record highs. The temperature at DFW Airport reached 83 degrees, breaking the previous record of 82 degrees established in 1905, nearly 120 years earlier.

The heat won’t last long; temperatures will fall below average due to a powerful front passing through on Thanksgiving.

This month, there have been only two days that have been cooler than average, with the majority of days being far warmer. It’s been one of the hottest November on record, but with a substantial cooling started, we might be able to avoid making history.

Thanksgiving Day will be cool and breezy. Low temperatures are forecast to be in the lower 40s, with northern counties in the 30s. Turkey trotters should bundle up. The wind will gust up to 25 mph, so it may feel even colder outside.

Thanksgiving day is also anticipated to be mild, with highs in the lower 50s, about 10 degrees below typical. Despite the abundance of cloud cover, conditions will remain dry overnight.

Temperatures will be below freezing beginning Friday morning as a result of the cold Canadian air setting in and radiational cooling overnight. We’ve issued a First Alert for Friday morning because temperatures in some parts of North Texas are expected to drop below freezing.

Plan ahead of time and bring any sensitive vegetation and pets indoors.

By Friday afternoon, temperatures will rise and there will be sunlight, making for a lovely weekend! In addition, conditions are expected to remain dry over the next week.
