In late December, some people with disabilities will get a payment from Social Security Disability Insurance of up to $3,822. On average, SSDI checks are much smaller, but if you made a lot of money, you could get one of these regular payments. Not only that, but some people can’t get it because their disability keeps them from working and meeting SSA’s standards.
The last SSDI payment will be made on December 24, not December 25. This was announced by the U.S. Government through the Social Security Administration’s payment plan.
SS won’t send the last SSDI check on December 25. Why is that?
Disability or retirement payouts are never made on Federal Holidays by the Agency. Since both SSA and bank offices will be closed, it is best to send this money ahead of time.
The Social Security Administration can be sure that all the money will be sent out right away this way. Remember that a lot of people with disabilities depend on this money to live.
So, SSA needs to make sure the checks and direct transfers get sent out on time. Things can’t be held up. So, the last disability payment of up to $3,822 will be sent to the accounts of those who are eligible on December 24, 2024. The 2025 COLA raise won’t be sent until January.
What do I need to do to get $3,822 from SSDI on December 24?
The only American workers who will get the most from Social Security when they become disabled are those who:
they have asked for disability funds
have been permitted by SSA
35 years of work
have had jobs that SSA paid for
have enough work credits
have worked for 35 years to earn the money and benefits
has turned 18 at the right time
Keep in mind that if you work less than 35 years, don’t make the highest amount of money that is taxed, or file for SSDI early, your monthly payment can go down by a lot. You can’t pick when you have a disability, though. To see the change, look at SSA’s payment plan here: http://www.ssa.gov/pubs/EN-05-10031-2024.pdf
