Veterans are set to receive additional benefits soon, thanks to a Social Security cost-of-living adjustment (COLA). Due to this year’s 3.2 per cent COLA, veterans can expect payments of up to $3,600, which will be distributed on March 1 and April 1 for February and March.
These increases aim to help veterans cope with rising costs of living and other expenses affected by inflation. The payments are particularly crucial for veterans transitioning to civilian life and those facing challenges in finding suitable employment due to disabilities incurred during their service.
Eligibility for these benefits includes veterans with disabilities resulting from their military service, excluding those with dishonourable discharges. Survivors of veterans can also receive monthly payments, with special allowances for those who have lost limbs in service.
The benefits extend to families of veterans who made the ultimate sacrifice, offering financial assistance to eligible loved ones. Veterans with lower incomes can also benefit from pensions provided by the VA.
Additionally, the VA is now accepting all veterans exposed to hazardous toxins during their service, allowing them to enrol in VA healthcare earlier than previously permitted.
Veterans from various conflicts and deployments, including Vietnam, the Gulf War, and post-9/11 service, are eligible for healthcare, regardless of whether they receive other VA benefits.
