MYRTLE BEACH, S.C. — A Virginia State Police trooper faces many counts in Myrtle Beach for allegedly sexually abusing a woman at a Grand Strand resort.

Darren Hampton Roberts is suspected of detaining the lady against her will on a bed and abusing her after an argument at the Caribbean Resort and Villas at 3000 N. Ocean Blvd., according to a Myrtle Beach police report.

On Thursday, the Virginia State Police verified to News13 that Roberts is a trooper with the Wytheville Division Area 24 Office in Pulaski County. He has been placed on administrative leave without pay pending the results of the criminal inquiry.

The agency said Myrtle Beach police notified it of his arrest on Monday.

According to the Myrtle Beach police report, Roberts and the woman knew one other, and authorities discovered “multiple visible injuries on her body” during their investigation.

Police have charged Hampton with kidnapping, first-degree criminal sexual assault, and first-degree domestic violence. He was detained at the J. Reuben Arrested on Tuesday and released on Wednesday after posting a $20,000 bond.
