SSDI is a Social Security benefit that American workers with certain disabilities can get. They can’t work for over a year because of their illness, so they need these monthly checks to pay their bills. When prices go up, the cost-of-living increase changes how much money they get every year.
People who get SSDI can keep their buying power thanks to these COLAs. It turns out that some disabled workers will be able to get up to $4,018 a year in 2025. But what do I need to do to get a direct transfer or such a big Social Security check?
Payment of $4,018 in SSDI – Eligibility
If you want to get a $4,018 Social Security Disability Insurance payment, you must have made a good living for many years. You won’t be able to get it if your pay have been average or low.
Because having a disability can make it impossible to work, a lot of people who get SSDI can’t meet the minimum number of years needed to get the biggest disability payouts. All of the following must be true:
- having earned the contribution and benefit base for 35 years (also known as taxable maximum)
- file for Social Security Disability Insurance at the age SSA requires in 2025
- having worked for at least thirty-five years
- having worked in jobs that paid enough payroll taxes+
These are a lot of requirements that aren’t easy at all. If you meet them all, you will be able to get an SSDI payment of $4,018 in 2025 after the COLA raise.
Dates that people who get SSDI can get up to $4,018
In January 2025, workers in the United States who are disabled and getting Disability Insurance will get a pay raise. In 2024, it will not be possible to get the new highest amounts.
On January 3, 2025, the first SSDI payout for 2025 will be sent out. You must have started getting disability benefits from Social Security before May 1997 if you want to get money on this date. Otherwise, you must also be getting SSI.
The SSA has also stated that people born on January 8 (born 1–10), 15 (born 11–20), or 22 (born 21–31) will get their benefits.
