Memphis, Tennessee — A lady was detained on Friday after Memphis police accused her of shooting a teenager outside a community facility.
On Thursday, around 3:50 p.m., cops responded to a shooting in the 4300 block of Graceland Drive.
They were told that a young victim had been fighting with another adolescent when she was pepper sprayed by an adult woman, later identified as Tequila Curry, 43.
During the struggle, the victim heard gunshots and discovered she had been injured in the arm.
The Memphis Fire Department transported the victim to Le Bonheur Children’s Hospital for medical treatment.
Curry allegedly fired another shot while fleeing the area in a black Chevrolet Malibu.
After an inquiry, authorities discovered that Curry was responsible for the shooting.
Curry’s aunt, who wishes to remain unidentified, told WREG that she helped raise Curry as a child and maintains a close relationship with her.
“She’s not the animal they’re pretending she is,” Curry’s aunt stated. “I can’t believe her bond is so high. I cannot. Growing up, I had a tiny mini-me. We did things together: I talked to her, we played cards, and we did everything as kids. I don’t know who they’re attempting to put together. It breaks my heart merely to find out, but she’s not a nasty person.”
She also provided a better insight into what might have motivated Curry’s behavior.
“A mother would do anything to protect their children,” she told me. “I hope what they’re saying is not true but as a mother, you have to protect your children, and I understand that.”
She has been charged with two counts of aggravated assault, vandalism of $1,000 or less, reckless endangerment with a deadly weapon, reckless endangerment discharging a firearm from within a motor vehicle, carrying weapons in public parks, playgrounds, civic centers, and other public recreational buildings and grounds, convicted felon in possession of a handgun, and two counts of assault.
