A lady attacked her boyfriend’s 10-year-old daughter, as well as the girl’s 14-year-old brother, who attempted to defend her, according to Florida authorities. Doris Espinoza-Rodriguez, 40, was convicted of two counts of attempted second-degree murder with a weapon, aggravated child abuse with a weapon, and felony battery on September 16, according to the Ninth Judicial Circuit State Attorney’s Office.
According to Osceola County Sheriff Marcos Lopez, Espinoza-Rodriguez and her boyfriend got into a fight during dinner on January 16, 2023. They continued to argue at home until Espinoza-Rodriguez pulled out a paring knife and the man threatened to call law enforcement, according to officials. In response, the lady found the 10-year-old girl and stabbed her in the shoulder before stabbing her elder brother when he attempted to interfere, according to deputies.
According to authorities, the father disarmed the woman and injured his hand before pinning her down until deputies arrived. Lopez stated that the 14-year-old child called 911 and was the one to open the door for cops while bleeding from his chest and shoulder. The younger girl was discovered in a pool of blood in a bedroom, and both girls were airlifted to a hospital, according to Lopez. The sheriff believes the older brother saved his sister’s life.
“He is truly a hero,” he stated. According to court filings, Espinoza-Rodriguez texted the man multiple times, hinting she would not be “going out by herself” and that she would walk out with a “bang.” During the trial, prosecutors alleged Espinoza-Rodriguez used self-defense and that the children’s father had ordered them to attack her. Her attorney, Jonathan Mills, said it was more of an accident.
She is due to be sentenced in December. Osceola County is part of the Orlando metro area.
