Malibu, CA – A 19-year-old is facing serious legal consequences for reckless driving, as officials report that the driver was clocked at 126 miles per hour while speeding past a deputy on the Pacific Coast Highway in Malibu.

On Sunday, a deputy was monitoring traffic on PCH near Decker Road when the arrest took place, as reported by the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department. A social media post features a photo capturing the moment a deputy recorded a blue Lexus speeding at 126 miles per hour during daylight hours.

Authorities reported the arrest of the 19-year-old, with the car being promptly impounded.

“We are all aware of the destruction that excessive speed can lead to. Let’s prioritize safety as we approach 2025,” shared LASD’s Lost Hills Station on X, previously known as Twitter.

Authorities at both local and state levels have ramped up enforcement efforts, including enhanced patrols and the installation of traffic cameras, to address the issue of speeding on PCH in Malibu.

In October 2023, a tragic incident occurred involving four students from Pepperdine University, who lost their lives when a speeding driver lost control, sideswiped parked vehicles, and collided with them near the Malibu Pier.

Officials reported that since 2010, more than 60 individuals have lost their lives in tragic accidents in the region.
