Race Day Live (Fayetteville, NC) – A tragic accident in Fayetteville claimed the life of a 19-year-old driver Wednesday afternoon when his car veered off the road and plunged into a creek, authorities said.

The Fayetteville Police Department (FPD) reported that the crash occurred shortly before 3:45 p.m. in the vicinity of Shaw Mill Road and Ridge Road.

Responding officers discovered a 2006 Honda Civic overturned and submerged in the creek. Emergency crews worked to extract the driver, identified as Echeverria Jose Sibrian, a Fayetteville resident.

Sibrian was rushed to Cape Fear Valley Medical Center, but despite efforts to save him, he was pronounced dead.

The cause of the crash remains under investigation by the FPD Traffic Unit. Police have not disclosed additional details about potential factors that may have contributed to the vehicle leaving the roadway.
