Maryland Postal Worker Honored as USPS ‘Driver of the Year’

Carter Scott is the winner of the Driver of the Year Award from the Postal Service. The source of the Spring says he lives in Silver Spring and works at the Suburban Processing and Distribution Center in Gaithersburg.

The USPS says that Carter Scott has not only talked the talk but also walked the walk. He says, “I believe in safety.” As a USPS driver since 1979, the tractor-trailer operator at the Suburban Processing and Distribution Center in Gaithersburg, MD, has never had an accident that could have been avoided.

Scott’s win was announced at the National Postal Forum not long ago, and Kelly Abney, who just left as chief logistics officer, accepted on his behalf. The award will be publicly given to the great driver at his place of work.

Nominees for the award from the USPS must have driven for 15 years, or 100,000 miles, without an accident that could have been avoided. “I drive the mail truck the same way I drive my car,” Scott said. “I plan to go home to my family every day.”
