Juveniles Arrested After Massive Brawl at Branford Dunkin’ Leaves Officers Injured

BRANFORD, Conn. — About 70 students showed up at Dunkin’ on Monday afternoon for a planned fight, and some of the teens later turned on the cops.

Nine people were jailed, and most of them were minors. Several police officers were also hurt.

When cops were called to the parking lot of 207 East Main Street around 2:30 p.m., they said there was a fight. When they got there, there were about 70 students in the shop and in the parking lot.

They also saw several fights going on outside the business, and all of them involved girls in high school.

As some students tried to leave the area, the first police officer to arrive broke up one of the fights.

Police said, though, that some teens refused to leave. As police tried to direct the big crowd outside the business, several young men started “challenging and fighting officers,” which turned into a fight.

Two teens and police officers got into a fight, and one of the officers was pushed into the front window of the foyer. The window broke, sending glass all over the place.

Authorities say the child still fought with the police officer, “kicking and refusing to comply with the officer’s attempts to secure him.”

A police cop used a taser, but it didn’t work. The teen was finally caught and charged with several crimes, including an attack on a police officer. After being hit with the taser, they were also taken to a hospital for evaluation, which is what cops say should happen.

Eight children were given Juvenile Summonses and were later released to their parents or guardians, either at the scene of the crime or after being processed at the police station.

Some of them were also charged with interfering with police, attacking, or making threats. They were all charged with second-degree breach of peace.

Jayde Gary, 18, of Branford was also arrested and charged with third-degree attack and second-degree breach of peace.

Police said that two teens continued to be violent toward police while they were being processed. They’re said to have spit at the cell cams and broken a bench for holding cells.

One of the teens was also taken to a hospital for a mental health checkup.

Police said that more arrests will be made as soon as they find more videos of what happened.

Because it was a one-time thing, the police didn’t think there was any danger to the public. The probe is still going on.

Right now, it’s not clear how bad the cops’ injuries are.
