In a devastating accident on Saturday, a collision between two cars on Interstate 15 in California resulted in three fatalities and multiple injuries. The crash occurred around 2 p.m. on March 30, when a Mercedes and a Kia collided on a wet stretch of road, causing chaos and traffic jams for hours.
According to Barstow police, the Kia lost control due to hydroplaning, veering across four lanes and the centre median before colliding head-on with the Mercedes SUV travelling in the opposite direction.
Tragically, the collision claimed the lives of two passengers in the Kia and one occupant in the Mercedes. Among the deceased were a 43-year-old woman and her two sons, aged 13 and 11, from the Kia, and an 11-year-old boy from the Mercedes.
In addition to the fatalities, several others sustained injuries of varying severity:
- Three-year-old boy (Kia) – major injuries
- Seven-year-old boy (Kia) – major injuries
- Fifteen-year-old boy (Mercedes) – major injuries
- Nineteen-year-old man (Kia) – moderate injuries
- Fifty-two-year-old man (Kia) [Driver] – moderate injuries
- Thirty-four-year-old woman (Mercedes) – moderate injuries
- Thirty-eight-year-old man (Mercedes) [Driver] – minor injury
The accident caused significant disruption to traffic, with lanes closed for nearly three hours before gradually reopening. The aftermath of the collision underscores the importance of caution and safe driving, especially in adverse weather conditions.
