Race Day Live Florida Governor Ron DeSantis has appointed four individuals to Florida’s Advisory Commission for America’s Semiquincentennial, taking an important step toward celebrating the United States’ 250th anniversary in 2026.
Lieutenant Governor Jeanette M. Nuñez will chair the commission, serving as a key link between Florida and the national Semiquincentennial Commission.

With over 36 years of military experience and an extensive background in law and education, his leadership will be instrumental in shaping the commission’s initiatives.
Jacqueline Gay Gaines: A leader in historic preservation, Gaines previously served as Regent of the Mount Vernon Ladies’ Association, where she helped restore George Washington’s estate. Her passion for American history and patriotic causes makes her a strong addition to the commission.
Dr. Lucas Morel: A distinguished professor of politics at Washington and Lee University, Dr. Morel specializes in American political thought and history. His expertise in the founding era and Abraham Lincoln’s legacy will provide valuable insights for the commission’s work.
Dr. Matthew Spalding: A constitutional scholar and dean at Hillsdale College’s Van Andel Graduate School of Government, Dr. Spalding is a respected voice on American self-government.
His deep understanding of the nation’s founding principles will help guide the commission’s initiatives.

Florida Secretary of State Cord Byrd praised the governor’s appointments, emphasizing the importance of celebrating America’s history.
