Tonight, Iowa will be hit by a wintry blast that will bring fast-moving snow showers, strong winds, and very low temperatures. The National Weather Service says driving will be unsafe starting tonight and going through Wednesday morning. Heavy snowfalls could happen all of a sudden, making it impossible to see more than half a mile ahead. In some places, the snow could accumulate to two inches.
Temperatures will drop to single digits as a strong cold front comes through. By Thursday morning, wind chills will reach 20 below zero. Wind gusts of 25 to 40 mph will make it dangerous to be outside.
Thursday, after a short break, there will be more light snow, mostly in central and southern Iowa. Drivers should allow more time for their trips and keep up with changes in the weather.
