Hoboken police have apprehended a 31-year-old man, Matthew Trontz of Jersey City, accused of robbing five local businesses in recent weeks. The targeted establishments include Prime Gourmet, Prime Stop, A&H Smoke Shop, Hoboken Mini Mart, and Thomas’ Ice Cream Cafe.
Trontz allegedly brandished what victims believed to be either a silver handgun or a black stun gun, enabling him to steal money and vaping products from the businesses.
Charges against Trontz include first-degree robbery, second-degree possession of a handgun, second-degree possession of a weapon for unlawful purposes, second-degree certain persons not to have weapons, fourth-degree possession of a weapon for unlawful purposes, fourth-degree possession of prohibited weapons and devices, and fourth-degree unlawful possession of a weapon.
Upon his arrest, Trontz was found in possession of a silver imitation toy gun, a black stun gun, a foldable pocketknife, and three cans of pepper spray. He is now in custody at the Hudson County Correctional Facility.
Mohamed Almohsen of A&H Smoke Shop expressed relief at Trontz’s arrest, emphasizing that such incidents are uncommon in the area.
