Race Day Live (Brigantine, NJ) – A young child was discovered alone in the frigid temperatures outside a home at the Jersey Shore on Monday, following an incident involving the child’s babysitter who reportedly consumed a dangerous amount of alcohol, according to police reports.
A shocked neighbor came to the aid of the young child in Brigantine shortly after 12:30 p.m. — only to discover the inebriated babysitter, Jena Davidson, unconscious within the residence, as reported by authorities.
The neighbor then contacted law enforcement, who arrived at the scene alongside the local fire department and emergency medical services.
A 35-year-old individual from Ventnor City, New Jersey, was placed on life support and transported to a local hospital for medical care, according to police reports.
“It was determined that the person who was hired to be responsible for the care of the child while the parents were working had consumed a significant amount of the homeowner’s alcohol to the point that she became unconscious and unresponsive,” the Brigantine Police Department said in a statement.
Davidson faced charges related to the second-degree endangerment of a child’s welfare. According to officials, the child’s parent was informed of the situation and quickly left work to return home.
