Tragic Crash: Three Dead in U.S. Military Helicopter Accident on Texas-Mexico Border Patrol

A U.S. National Guard helicopter, assigned to patrol the Texas-Mexico border, crashed near Rio Grande City, Texas, killing two soldiers and a U.S. Border Patrol agent. The incident occurred around 2:50 p.m. during aerial monitoring operations. Another soldier was injured in the crash.

The UH-72 Lakota helicopter was conducting “monitoring and detection” operations when the accident happened, according to U.S. Army Major Ryan Wierzbicki.

The cause of the crash is under investigation, and details about weather conditions at the time are not yet available.

The names of the victims are being withheld until their next of kin are notified. The helicopter was part of a federal Southwest border support mission with Joint Task Force North, based at Fort Bliss, Texas.
