Rusty Staub’s Nonprofit Donates $50,000+ to NYPD Widow and Son

In a heartwarming gesture of support, the N.Y. Police and Fire Widows’ & Children’s Benefit Fund, also known as Answer the Call, has come forward to assist the widow and 1-year-old son of fallen NYPD officer Jonathan Diller.

Answer the Call, a nonprofit organization established by the late Mets legend Rusty Staub in 1985, has pledged to provide Diller’s widow with immediate financial relief by granting her $50,000. This generous contribution aims to alleviate any pressing financial burdens she may be facing during this difficult time.

Moreover, the organization has announced plans to extend ongoing support to Diller’s family by offering an annual stipend of $10,000. This long-term commitment is intended to provide financial stability for Diller’s widow and son throughout their lives.

The announcement from Answer the Call comes just one day after the tragic passing of Officer Jonathan Diller, who was fatally shot during a vehicle stop in Queens. Diller, 31, was a dedicated member of the NYPD’s Critical Response Team and leaves behind a grieving family and community.

Lauren Profeta, the executive director of Answer the Call, expressed profound sorrow over the loss of Officer Diller, describing him as a husband, father, son, and hero. She emphasized the organization’s deep commitment to supporting the families of fallen heroes and highlighted their belief in honoring their sacrifices by assisting those they leave behind.

Since its establishment, Answer the Call has provided over $175 million in direct assistance to families who have lost a loved one in the line of duty. Last year alone, the organization aided approximately 550 families and distributed over $5.3 million in support.
