The San Francisco Giants have sealed the deal with left-handed pitcher Blake Snell, finalizing a hefty $62 million contract spanning two years. The announcement comes ahead of Snell’s introduction at a news conference scheduled for Wednesday in Scottsdale, Arizona.
Under the terms of the agreement, Snell receives a substantial $17 million signing bonus, due on Jan. 15, 2026, along with a $15 million salary for the current year. Additionally, if Snell remains with the Giants for the 2025 season, he stands to earn $30 million, with $15 million deferred and payable on July 1, 2027.
At 30 years old, Snell brings an impressive track record to the Giants, boasting a career record of 71 wins and 55 losses with a stellar 3.20 ERA over eight seasons in Major League Baseball.
He clinched the prestigious Cy Young Award twice, first in 2018 with the Tampa Bay Rays and then again in 2021 with the San Diego Padres.
The timing of the deal is significant, with Snell completing the agreement just nine days before the Giants’ season opener against the Padres, setting the stage for a potential debut against his former team. Snell joins a formidable pitching rotation alongside Logan Webb, Jordan Hicks, and Kyle Harrison, with Alex Cobb currently on the mend from left hip surgery.
This acquisition marks another major move for the Giants, who have been active in the offseason, securing key players like outfielder Jung Hoo Lee, pitcher Jordan Hicks, outfielder Jorge Soler, and third baseman Matt Chapman to bolster their roster.
Originally drafted by the Tampa Bay Rays in 2011, Snell quickly ascended to the majors in 2016, making a name for himself as a dominant force on the mound.
